Tata Harrier & Safari Petrol vs Rivals – The forthcoming petrol versions of the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari are surely among the most remarkable news for SUV enthusiasts in 2025. The models being considered for December 9, 2025 price announcement and execution will not only enter the market but also face tough competition coming from Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector/Hector Plus. And so this comparison sets the Harrier & Safari petrol versions against the competition with respect to design, size, performance, and pricing.
Dimensions Comparison
The petrol models of Harrier and Safari are built on the same robust platform as the diesel variant by Tata. Both SUVs are instantly recognizable with their wide body proportions and high ground clearance. Having a 1922 mm width, they are the widest SUVs in the overall comparison. The estimated ground clearance of 205 mm also makes them a bit more superior on the rough Indian roads.
Tata Harrier has a boot space of 445 litres which is the second-highest in this comparison after that of the MG Hector. Safari, with all three rows occupied, offers 211 litres of capacity for luggage making it more spacious than the Hector Plus but slightly behind the XUV700. Hector is still the longest SUV here but Alcazar has the longest wheelbase. The Harrier and Safari are clearly making a powerful statement in terms of overall stance and road presence.

Engine Comparison
Tata’s completely new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol Hyperion engine is the major attraction of the Harrier and Safari petrol models. The preliminary figures that come out indicate that this engine will have a power of 170hp and a torque of 280Nm, thereby putting it even higher than the Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector in terms of output. However, the only SUV that can be called Tata’s equal in terms of engine power is Mahindra XUV700 that boasts 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 200hp and 380Nm torque. This makes it the most powerful option in the segment.
Tata has made it clear that a new petrol engine will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission options. However, the specific type of automatic gearbox has not yet been disclosed. Competitors like the Alcazar, XUV700, and Hector already provide a selection of DCT, torque converter, and CVT automatics, giving customers plenty of options. The competition will then be very clearly defined when Tata provides its gearbox information.
Expected Price Comparison
Considering that the new Harrier and the new Safari will both have gasoline as one of their engine options, the diesel variants will definitely be more expensive than the petrol ones. If we go by the initial estimates, the Harrier petrol might cost around ₹13.75 lakh to ₹24.75 lakh, while the Safari petrol will probably be in the range of ₹14.40 lakh to ₹25.45 lakh.

In end, the Mahindra XUV700 is still the lowest-priced alternative in the competitive price range, starting from ₹13.66 lakh. The Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector, while being more expensive, grant Tata a strong entry-level advantage. Nevertheless, the uppermost petrol versions of the Harrier and Safari might eventually cost more than the premium variants of the Hector and Hector Plus.
