MG Gloster vs. Toyota Fortuner – Two of the SUVs that have the most media coverage and discussions in India are the MG Gloster and the Toyota Fortuner, each of them catering to different consumer preferences. Classic Toyota reliable off-road performance, dependability, and resale value, meanwhile, the Gloster astonishes first with a luxury-styled interior and recent technology. So, it all comes down to what you consider more important in an SUV on the two.
Price
MG Gloster pricing starts from around ₹38.33 lakh (ex-showroom), which places it in the luxury segment of the market. In contrast, the Fortuner is a bit more in reach, the starting prices for the petrol variant being ₹33.65 lakh and for diesel ₹34.28 lakh. The price difference with the Gloster is mainly due to the luxury-oriented features that make it more tech-savvy.
Dimensions
The MG Gloster is a big SUV compared to the Fortuner, owing also to its longer wheelbase that is a factor for more spacious interiors and greater comfort for the passengers during long rides. However, the Fortuner which is a smaller SUV is at least and by far the best in the ground clearance category which is an indispensable factor for off-roading and tough terrains.

Engine
MG Gloster comes with two engines: a single 2.0-litre turbo and a twin-turbo diesel engine giving a power of 215 bhp and a torque of up to 480 Nm. In the case of Fortuner, it is a choice between a 2.7-litre petrol and a 2.8-litre turbo diesel with a max output of 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. MG is highly recommended for the good and fast performance on highways and cities, whereas the Fortuner’s motors are set for off-road toughness and reliability.
Off-Road Capability
The Fortuner model has been a popular choice among the buyers going for off-road adventures for its powerful 4×4 systems and a low-range gearbox. MG Gloster, on the contrary, while it is quite capable with its selection of drive modes like Snow, Sand, and Mud, it doesn’t have a low-range gearbox, making it less suitable for rigorous off-roading.

Safety
Safety is the strongest feature of both SUVs. MG Gloster has a total of six airbags combined with a state-of-the-art Level 2 ADAS suite, consisting of cruise control and emergency braking, among other things. The Fortuner, on the other hand, has a total of seven airbags and a sturdy structure but does not have any of the sophisticated systems for assisting the driver that are available in the Gloster.
Fortuner from Toyota has a very good reputation for reliability and resale value as the car has been in the market for a long time now. A newer car like the MG Gloster, which is yet to be fully accepted and recognized, could be resold at a lower price although it has technologically advanced features and luxuriousness.
Features
MG Gloster is pronounced as a modern vehicle in terms of technology and luxurious features. It has a Level 2 ADAS system, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a three-zone climate control system, front seats that can be adjusted electrically with a massage function, and 64-color mood lighting. On the other hand, the Fortuner relies on the essentials that are really functional, like, for example, ventilated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, a power rear door, and in total, seven airbags.
