Mahindra XEV 9s Vs XEV 9e – Mahindra has introduced the XEV 9s electric SUV in a seven-seater avatar along with this ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag, thus expanding the electric vehicle portfolio. XEV 9s has been the latest addition to the EV lineup, which has made an ascension of an interesting contrast to the five-seater XEV 9e that has been around for quite a while. Both of the vehicles are classified into the same group but their targeted markets are a bit different. The XEV 9s is determined to give maximum comfort to the family and practicality, while the XEV 9e is for the performance-driven and the excitement-seeker.

Comparison of Designs

The XEV 9s is a seven-seater SUV that is somewhat influenced by Mahindra’s ICE sibling the XUV 700, having a rectangular rear, a split LED-lights for the tail and an assertive figure. Meanwhile, the XEV 9e is a five-seater EV that borrows its looks from the basic BE06 EV SUV, having a sort of a coup-like rear and an electric light connected for the taillights. Both the vehicles feature the prominent connected LED DRLs in the front however, the general design expresses differently with the 9s underlining area and utility whilst the 9e is leaning towards the aspect of slenderness and sportiness.

Engine

The XEV 9s, which offers third-row seating, has a luggage compartment of 500 liters when the third row is folded down and a ground clearance of 205 mm. The two cars are based on the same INGLO platform and have nearly identical characteristics in terms of wheelbase and frunk volume.

Safety and Charging

The two vehicles have a similar safety standard, with such features as 6 to 7 airbags, multi-link rear suspension, disc brakes on all wheels, and electrically powered steering. The sizes of the wheels are different, with the XEV 9e being equipped with larger alloys of 19 inches and the XEV 9s being provided with 18 inches alloys. The two vehicles are identical in their ability to accommodate AC charging through portable chargers and wall chargers, while supporting DC rapid charging which makes the power-up process for city and long-distance drive faster.

Features 

The XEV 9e and 9s possess premium infotainment setups along with luxurious features. Among the many breathtaking aspects are the full LED lighting, panoramic or infinity roofs, triple-screen infotainment, MAIA connectivity with Snapdragon, Harman-Kardon sound systems, ambient lighting, ventilated seats, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, and Level 2 ADAS safety technologies. The 9s family-friendly features include ‘Boss Mode’ sliding rear seats, second-row ventilated seats, and lounge desks at the rear which makes the whole family feel more comfortable during long trips.

Price and Verdict

The XEV 9e has a price of ₹22.65 lakh (ex-showroom) whereas the more practical XEV 9s is priced at ₹19.96 lakh. The 9s is more family-friendly, allowing two extra passengers, adding comfort features, and setting a lower price point whereas the 9e is for the buyers who want to experience more performance-oriented driving. To sum up, the Mahindra XEV 9s comes out to be a more versatile and practical choice, especially for the ones who need space, comfort, and value in a seven-seater electric SUV first and foremost.
