Hyundai Creta vs Mahindra XUV 3XO – When it comes to the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV 3XO, the Indian car buyer’s dilemma is clearly a consumer preference whether to draw energy from a mid-size diesel’s smoothness and fuel economy or a sub-4m turbo’s sharpness and affordability. The Creta aims to be the mid-size SUV of choice with its 1.5L diesel engine that is good for travel and the XUV 3XO (previously XUV300) is a little, fully loaded SUV with 1.2L turbo-petrol engine that provides fun city driving.
Engine
Hyundai Creta’s 1.5L diesel engine has been optimized for torque to make the cruising experience on the highways almost effortless. It generates 114 bhp at a speed of 4,000 rpm and can produce the highest torque of 250 Nm in the range of 1,500 – 2,750 rpm, depending on whether it is mated with a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission. The use of a 4-cylinder developed system assures the driver and the passengers a smooth and quiet ride, which is perfect for long trips because of the good fuel economy of about 21.8 kmpl.

Mahindra XUV 3XO’s power plant is a 1.2L turbo-petrol engine producing 130bhp at 5,000rpm and 230Nm of torque at 1,500–3,750rpm. The car with a 3-cylinder turbocharged layout is very lively and agile especially in the stop-and-go city where it feels more powerful than what it really is, but it has a slightly lower mileage of about 18.2 kmpl. To sum up, Creta outperforms in the areas of fuel use and refinement while the XUV 3XO is more entertaining in the city driving with its instant throttle response.
Size, Space, and Pricing
The Creta is the bigger of the two cars, measuring 4,330mm in length with a 2,610mm wheelbase, offering 433 litres of boot space. The larger size gives it a stronger presence on the road but also a higher price tag, making it cost between ₹12.5 lakh and ₹20.2 lakh (diesel variants) depending on the model selected.

The XUV 3OX, as a sub-4m SUV, is 3,990mm long but still manages to have a 2,600mm wheelbase. The luggage compartment is smaller with a capacity of 364 litres, but the car is priced lower between ₹10.7 lakh and ₹14.4 lakh for the highest petrol turbo variants. The XUV 3XO provides a compact and practical package that does not take away much from the interior space.
Safety and Features
XUV 3XO is a car with safety features that endow it with major strengths. It has a strong construction, a 5-star GNCAP rating, and includes Level 2 ADAS capabilities such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. The car also has all-disc brakes and a dual-zone climate control system.
The Hyundai Creta competes with the cabin noise minimization, ventilated front seats, and panoramic sunroof. Its top diesel versions come with six airbags but the pre-facelift safety rating was 3-star GNCAP, and the ADAS is available only for some models like the N-Line.
