Honda Activa vs TVS Jupiter – The Honda Activa and the TVS Jupiter have been the two strongest competitors for a long time in the Indian scooter market and both have their respective fanbases. The last major update for the Activa was given more than five years ago, while the Jupiter 110 was completely revamped last year. They share the same merits of being reliable, efficient, and pragmatic but how do they score when it comes to real-life fuel economy? This is a thorough comparison.
Specifications and Price
The specifications of the two scooters are very close to each other. The single-cylinder, air-cooled engine of the Honda Activa has a capacity of 109.5cc and it generates 8hp at 8,000rpm and 9.05Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. The engine of the TVS Jupiter is a little more powerful as it is a 113.3cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, which also produces the same 8hp but at 6,500rpm, and has 9.80Nm of torque at 5,000rpm. The weight of both scooters is 105kg which gives them a very similar power-to-weight ratio of 76.19hp per tonne. The fuel tank capacities of the scooters are 5.3 litres for the Activa and 5.1 litres for the Jupiter. On the pricing front, the Activa is priced between Rs 74,619 and Rs 87,944 while the Jupiter, on the other hand, is a bit cheaper with a price range of Rs 72,400 to Rs 85,400.

The Jupiter is better than the Activa in a few ways. Its Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) gives a quick electric boost which in turn improves the delivery of torque and makes the feel of acceleration even smoother. Besides, the engine gets to peak power quicker in terms of the rev band. What’s more, some variants of the Jupiter are equipped with a front disc brake, which the Activa does not have, thus making the overall appeal of the scooter stronger.
Real-World Mileage
Honda Activa is the king of mileage when it comes to efficiency. The Activa in city riding condition gives 54.4kpl, while the Jupiter gives 50.2kpl. The difference on the highway is more significant, which the Activa is giving 66.2kpl and the Jupiter 56.4kpl. The Activa gets 60.3kpl in total whereas, the Jupiter gets only 53.3kpl. They have almost the same fuel tank sizes and hence the range of the scooters comes out to be 319.6km for the Activa and 271.8km for the Jupiter, making long-distance riding a lot easier with the Activa.

Testing Methodology
Autocar India’s real-world fuel-efficiency testing is a method used to ensure accuracy and consistency. The scooters are run through city and highway routes at average speeds that are typical of real-world riding and proper tyre pressures and consistent rider weight are maintained throughout. Fuel consumption is measured by filling the tank at the beginning and end of the trip which then gives the exact mileage figures. So, this method gives a very clear & authentic performance comparison under practical conditions.
Verdict
Both scooters are great, but the Honda Activa is in the top fuel-miser class and has a bigger range. The rider looking for the cheapest solution for both city commuting and highway traveling will find the Activa the most frugal and able option, while the Jupiter brings a little sportiness and advantages of features at a competitive price.
