The country’s leading vehicle manufacturer Tata Motors is currently the largest EV manufacturer selling electric vehicles. The company started its electric journey with the launch of the Nexon EV. After which, electric versions of Tigor and Tiago were introduced. Now Tata Motors is preparing to introduce its second electric SUV. Punch SUV is the country’s second best-selling model of Tata Motors. There is a preparation to launch it in electric avatar next year. The new Tata Punch EV is expected to go on sale in India next year.
According to media reports, Vivek Srivastava, Marketing Head Passenger Vehicle Business Unit at Tata Motors, has recently confirmed the launch of Punch EV in India soon. However, he did not reveal too many details about Tata’s second upcoming electric SUV after the Nexon EV. The carmaker will likely launch the model in the second half of next year. The Punch EV will be the fourth passenger EV from Tata Motors after the Nexon, Tigor and, more recently, the Tiago EV.

The Punch EV will be similar to its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) model regarding its looks and design. However, there may be subtle changes to give it a unique look of an Electric Car. The Punch EV will be positioned between the Tiago and the Nexon in the company’s EV portfolio. Apart from this, it can also be expected to get more features than its petrol version.
Battery and Range
The upcoming Punch EV will be Tata’s first electric Car based on the ALFA platform. It is expected to get a 25 kWh battery pack and offer a driving range of around 250 to 300 km on a single charge. This electric SUV will also support fast charging.
Price and competition
The all-new Tata Punch EV is expected to be priced at Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom. After launch, it could be the most affordable electric SUV in the country. Punch EV will not have direct competition with anyone in the Indian market. But it will rival the Nexon EV and XUV400 to some extent.
