Mahindra Thar RWD was officially launched in the Indian car market on Monday at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom, which goes up to Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The company has announced that these are introductory SUV prices and are valid only on the first 10,000 bookings. The capabilities of the four-wheel drive or 4WD version of the Mahindra Thar have been enhanced. Delivery of the new variant of Thar will start on January 14, 2023.
Mahindra Thar RWD has been introduced with a D117 CRDe engine that generates power of 117 BHP and torque of 300 Nm and comes with manual transmission. A petrol engine with the mStallion 150 TGDi engine generates 150 BHP and 320 Nm torque and is mated to an automatic transmission. The Mahindra Thar RWD variant is available in two new colour options – Blazing Bronze and Everest White.
The Mahindra Thar 2WD (rear-wheel drive) doesn’t differ much from the Thar 4WD model. The only difference in the exterior look is the absence of 4X4 badging. On the inside, things remain the same, missing out on a separate gearbox to tackle the off-road sections.
The hard version will introduce the new variant of the Mahindra Thar SUV. It will also come with an electronic brake locking differential, ESP with roll-over mitigation and safety features like hill hold and hill descent control exclusive to the rear-wheel drive variant. There will be an option to choose 16-inch steel all or 18-inch alloys in wheel size.
