India’s 3 Popular Mid-Size SUVs Soon Get CNG Variants

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hyundai Creta, three well-known mid-size SUVs in India, will soon be available with CNG fuel alternatives. In actuality, reservations for the Toyota Hyryder CNG have begun with a Rs 25,000 deposit. With a factory-installed CNG kit, it will probably be the first model in its sector to be sold. While the Vitara and Hyryder CNG models are projected to hit the roads next month (i.e., in December 2022), the Creta CNG is anticipated to arrive in early 2023.

The 1.5L, the 4-cylinder K15C petrol engine will be combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox in the Maruti Grand Vitara CNG and Toyota Hyryder CNG. The SUVs’ fuel economy with the CNG kit will be 26.10 km/kg. On the Maruti XL6 CNG, the same powertrain is rated at 26.32 km/kg. The system will produce about 88 horsepower and 121.5 pound-feet of torque while operating on CNG. The petrol mild hybrid engine produces a maximum power of 103 bhp and 136 Nm of torque in standard form.

While the Maruti Grand Vitara CNG may be available across all versions, the Toyota Hyryder CNG will only be offered on the mid-spec S and G trims. The SUVs’ exterior and interior will remain unchanged, save for the CNG emblem at the back.

It is anticipated that the 1.4L GDi turbo petrol engine and 6-speed manual transmission will be available in the Hyundai Creta CNG. The power and torque output will be less in CNG mode than in ordinary petrol mode. The latter produces 242Nm of torque and 138bhp of stated power. At the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo, the Creta facelift model, which will debut in India, may include a CNG version. The twice-yearly auto show will be held in Greater Noida in January.
