The demand for electric vehicles is increasing in markets worldwide, including India. Due to this sudden spurt in EV demand, automobile manufacturers are also increasing their production and launching new models. The electric 4-wheeler segment is currently dominated by Tata Motors, which now commands over 80 per cent market share. In the next few years, many new EVs will be launched in the country.

Maruti’s SUV
Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that it will showcase its futuristic SUV EV concept at the 16th edition of the Indian Auto Expo. This electric vehicle will be launched in the first half of 2025. It will be based on Toyota’s 27PL platform, a cost-effective derivative of the 40PL platform. The new model is expected to offer two battery packs of 48kWh with around 400km range and 59kWh with a 500km range on a single charge. It will come in both two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive layouts.
MG Air 2-Door Electric
The Air 2-door electric vehicle, built specifically for India, will be displayed at a gathering. At the Auto Expo 2023, the company will show the Urban EV and the MG 4 EV. The Euro NCAP crash test gave the electric hatch a 5-star safety rating. Both variations come with a single-motor RWD setup and have a maximum torque of 250Nm.
Based on Wuling Air EV
MG Motor India may launch the Air 2-door EV at the auto event. Based on the China-spec Wuling Air EV, the new entry-level MG EV is expected to enter the production line in March 2023. It is likely to use a battery pack between 20kWh – 25kWh. It will provide power close to 40bhp and offer an electric range of around 150 km.
