4 New Midsize IC-Engined SUVs – The midsize SUV segment in India is on the brink of becoming very competitive as four major launches are scheduled for the next four months. Mahindra, Tata Motors, Renault, and Nissan are all set to come out with new internal combustion engine (ICE) SUVs which are not just minor changes but major models in their brand strategy. The companies want to be more present in the market, attract new customers, and increase sales as they move towards 2026.

Tata Sierra ICE
Tata Motors is reviving its classic Sierra nameplate with a contemporary twist, providing it with both petrol and diesel engines beside the electric one. The petrol version will be equipped with a 1.5-litre engine offered in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions, with the turbo version expected to deliver 168 PS and 280 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre diesel engine will also be available, along with the choice of manual or automatic transmission. The design of the Sierra takes retro hints from the original model and blends them with futuristic styling. The interior will have generous space owing to the long wheelbase, triple-screen layout, four-spoke steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, connected tech, multi-speaker Dolby Atmos audio, powered tailgate, and Level 2 ADAS, making it a strong player in the premium midsize SUV segment.

Mahindra XUV700 Facelift
The Mahindra XUV700 has been scheduled for its first and major crunch of the facelift in January 2026. The exterior updates are barely noticeable, but the interior breaks into a completely new style. A new triple-screen design, a tidier dashboard, and better quality of materials can all be expected. On the other hand, Mahindra will keep the already existing 2.0-liter turbo-petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines for mechanical reasons, which are available in manual and automatic transmission modes. This keeps the SUV in a new appearance and feel while at the same time, using the powertrain that has been around and trusted by the buyers.

Nissan Tekton
With the upcoming Tekton, which is expected in the first half of 2026, Nissan is pulling off a huge comeback in the segment of the midsized SUVs. The Tekton shares the platform with the new-generation Renault Duster but gets a totally different and powerful design, square and muscular, which draws from Nissan’s global cars, among which is the Patrol. With a strong road presence and differentiation, the Tekton is set to become a very important vehicle for Nissan’s Indian portfolio and will be a great option for buyers looking for a hefty and capable SUV.

New-Generation Renault Duster
With more than 5 years of development, Renault is introducing a new-generation Duster in India with the start of sales on January 26, 2026. The new Duster, which has been designed on the CMF-B platform and extensively adapted to suit Indian conditions, will be available with petrol engine options and manual and automatic gearboxes. The new Duster will surely stand out offering a more premium feel, higher equipment levels, and a better driving experience compared to its predecessor, thus, being a strong contender in the midsize SUV segment.
