Next-Gen Honda City 2028 – The Honda City has been a timeless classic in the Indian midsized sedan segment over the years. The first generation was introduced in 1998, and it won the hearts of the city people with its classy look, dependable performance and utilitarian features. The car has entered the market multiple times with different upgrades over 24 years and is now in the fifth generation with 1.5L petrol and hybrid (e-HEV) engines. Honda is all set to introduce the sixth generation City by 2028 which will be a new breath for this segment that has been witnessing falling numbers.

Platform

The futuristic Honda City 2028 will feature and CSS (Centralized Smart Structure) platform, disclosed recently at the Honda Automotive Technology Workshop among the facilities. This design is really strong and it is about 90kg less than the preceding generation thereby giving the handling, safety and fuel economy a boost. The PF2 structure is completely modular which enables Honda to utilize over 60% of the same parts in different car models. This in turn would lower the production costs greatly while at the same time improving the company’s vehicles in terms of efficiency and reliability.

Design

Honda has gotten ideas from the Honda 0 series sedan concept which was unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show. The next-gen city is expected to have a very daring and futuristic design with acute angles, a very streamlined body and a premium position. The interior would be very functional with new ergonomics, modern infotainment systems and classy materials that would give the cabin a feel of luxury and modernity. The design changes are meant to attract not only the faithful City fans but also the young buyers.

Engine & Performance

The 2028 City is expected to return mechanically with the same tested and trusted 1.5L petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrains. The petrol version will still have the 6-speed manual and CVT gearbox, whereas the hybrid version will feature eCVT transmission. By doing this, Honda is able to keep the good combination of efficiency, performance, and driving comfort. Despite the new platform and design changes, City will probably still have that smooth ride quality and reliability that has been the reason for buyer’s trust for years.

Honda City has always been associated with the innovations that the segment through the introduction of CVT in its third generation and being the first sedan in India to offer such a facility in the form of Honda Sensing ADAS in 2023 among many. The company has a next-gen City up its sleeve that will help it not only to link past cycles of dependability but also with state-of-the-art design and tech to remain among the competition. The 2028 City is predicted to be the leader in the areas of comfort, luxury, and efficiency among the mid-size sedan category.
