Hero Mavrick 440 – Hero MotoCorp, which has been known as the ruler of the commuter motorcycles for a long time, has now stepped into the mid-capacity premium segment by launching the Mavrick 440. The Mavrick 440, which shares the same platform as the Harley-Davidson X440, is aimed at the competitive 350-450cc segment, and boasts of strong low-end torque, roadster styling, and a value-packed package. But will it be enough to take on the already established competitors such as Royal Enfield and Triumph?
Engine
The 440cc single-cylinder engine, air- and oil-cooled SOHC engine is what drives the Mavrick 440. At 6,000 rpm, it generates 27 PS of power and 36 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Its torque is such that almost 90% of it is ready for use from a mere 2,000 rpm which makes city riding utterly smooth with very few gear changes. Adding to that, the 6-speed gearbox with Assist & Slipper Clutch makes the ride ever so pleasant and easy to control. The engine’s most comfortable and efficient range is 80-110 km/h for cruisers while the vibrations might set in after 4,500 rpm.
Design
The Mavrick 440 has the appearance of a neo-retro roadster with its thick fuel tank, all-LED projector headlamp, and narrow tail section. Its straight riding position made possible by wide handlebars and mid-set footpegs gives the rider ease and command not only in heavy city traffic but also in longer rides.

Suspension and Weight
Among the bike’s suspension system are the 43 mm telescopic front forks and the twin rear shocks, which come with 7-step preload adjustment. The shocks have been tuned for ride comfort over rough roads. With the top variant having a kerb weight of 187 kg, it’s a bike that feels light and is easy to handle.
Features and Variants
The Mavrick 440 is offered in three different configurations:
Base: Spoke wheels, single-color – ₹1.99 Lakh
Mid: Alloy wheels, two-tone color, tires for street use – ₹2.14 Lakh
Top: Alloy wheels, Bluetooth, turn-by-turn navigation, E-SIM based Hero Connect – ₹2.24 Lakh
Besides, all models have dual-channel ABS and an Assist & Slipper Clutch. The connectivity features are incorporated in the top variant while the LCD instrument cluster may be compared to competitors’ TFT units and thus may feel basic.
Verdict
Hero Mavrick 440 is a winner as a value-for-money roadster. It may not be the quickest or the most sophisticated bike of the family, but it gives powerful low-end torque, relaxing ride in the city as well as on the highway, and a safe build reinforced by Hero’s service network.
