Honda Shine 100 DX – Real-World Ride Comfort Tested on Indian Roads and City Traffic

Honda Shine 100 DX – The Honda Shine 100 DX keeps on demonstrating the reasons why 100cc commuter motorcycles are still the most popular ones in the Indian two-wheeler market. The Honda Shine 100 DX is a tough, fuel-efficient, and affordable bike, which is the base model of the Shine 100 with more subtle and premium features that add comfort and usability without being complicated.

Design & Features

Among the changes, the DX version receives a new larger 10-litre fuel tank, tubeless tyres, a digital display, black engine finish, four new colours, and a headlight with chrome embellishment. 4 kg additional weight results from these modifications, with the total weight remaining at a manageable 103 kg. The LCD display is visible with ease, and the seating position still stays neutral with a slightly flat seat that comfortably holds two adults.

Comfort & Ride

The up-right body position enables the rider to be comfortable irrespective of heights, including those around 5ft 11in. The cushioning of the seat is a bit tough but not at the expense of comfort, the long seat will not cause any discomfort during long rides. The rear shock absorber is at its best when riding with a passenger but it is also sufficient for a single rider. The narrow body and small turning radius make it very easy to move around the city and in the traffic.

Performance & Mileage

The Shine 100 DX with its 98.98cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that generates 7.4 hp at 7500 rpm and 8.05 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm, offers smooth, relaxed performance. The four-speed gearbox is perfectly tuned for the noisy city and the silent highways both at the same time. There is no issue of fuel consumption with 72.4 km/l in the city and 81.7 km/l on the highway converting to almost 800 km of range per full tank. The acceleration may not be impressive but it is more than enough for its group.

Brakes & Safety

The DX model is fitted with 130mm front and 110mm rear drum brakes. Though these are fine for everyday use, they do not provide sufficient power for sudden stops. However, the light and agile characteristics of the bike more than offset this drawback, thus making it very safe and easy to control in heavy traffic.

Price & Verdict

The Shine 100 DX is offered at a price of Rs 69,694 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is Rs 6,500 higher than the price of the base model. New features including tubeless tires, a larger fuel tank, and a digital display make this a worth upgrade for a little more premium. The Honda Shine 100 DX is a perfect option for those practical commuters who want fuel efficiency, reliability, and features at a reasonable cost.
