Tata Harrier vs Safari Petrol – Tata Motors is finally introducing a petrol engine to its popular Harrier and Safari SUVs, which means that the era of diesel-only has come to an end at Tata Motors. This decision is very clever because they will be able to compete closely with Mahindra XUV700 and MG Hector, among others, since these already have strong petrol engines in their lineup. The new 1.5L T-GDi petrol engine, which belongs to the Hyperion family, brings with it, refinement, smoothness, and a performance that can compete with the existing 2.0L Kryotec which offers massive torque for long-distance driving in addition to loading heavy stuff.

Engine

The 1.5L T-GDi petrol engine is a four-cylinder unit with a turbocharger and direct fuel injection built with an all-aluminium block to reduce weight. It has an output of about 168-170 PS and a torque of 280 Nm. The gasoline powerplant will be combined with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic and a seven-speed DCT transmission and is compliant with the BS6 Phase 2 and E20 fuel standards.

On the contrary, the 2.0L Kryotec diesel engine is capable of producing the same 170 PS but a greater 350 Nm of torque, due to its iron block and premature torque availability from 1,750 acres per minute. The same transmission options as petrol are available; and in addition, it meets BS6 Phase 2 criteria.

Performance & Driving Dynamics

The petrol model gives a very smooth and quiet driving experience, especially at the high speeds. Steering feel and high-speed handling are enhanced by the lower weight and refined construction. Conversely, diesel has the advantage in city driving with heavy loads or highway overtakes owing to its great low-end torque.

For enthusiasts, the 1.5L T-GDi petrol is the perfect option for silky-smooth and effortless cruising while the 2.0L Kryotec diesel is still the king for powerful torque, long-distance vacations.

Pricing 

Petrol variants may be as much as ₹1-1.5 lakh less expensive than diesel models, thus attracting urban buyers who are moderate in their monthly mileage. On the other hand, diesel is still preferred buy some customers who look for long-time reliability, high mileage, and good torque for difficult roads.

The introduction of the 1.5L T-GDi petrol engine is a watershed moment in the history of Tata Harrier and Safari. Not only does it accommodate the shift in consumer demand towards petrol but it also places the SUVs in the line of fire with rivals in terms of both performance and pricing. Diesel may still take the lead in torque and load-hauling, however, petrol has become a much more tempting choice for urban SUV buyers in terms of refinement, smoothness, and lower entry cost.
